About the role

eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future. To strengthen our theory team, we are looking for a Theoretical Physicist - Quantum Gate Design & Validation (f/m/d). Responsibilities: In this role, you will develop and analyze high-fidelity quantum gate mechanisms for trapped-ion processors. You will contribute to the theoretical modeling of physical interactions, translate them into optimized hardware-aware schemes, and collaborate with the experimental team for their implementation and validation. A key component of the position is contributing to performance benchmarking, ensuring consistency between theoretical predictions, numerical simulations, and experimental results. Develop theoretical models for single- and multi-qubit gate operations Analyze and optimize gate performance under realistic noise conditions Design and refine pulse schemes for robust quantum control Develop effective noise models connecting microscopic physical processes circuit simulators towards QEC and quantum applications Contribute to performance benchmarking and model validation Work at the interface between hardware and theory to guide device development and requirements engineering Required skills: PhD in Physics or a closely related field Strong background in quantum optics and quantum technologies Excellent analytical skills in theoretical modeling, with strong proficiency in numerical simulations Ability to work effectively in an international, interdisciplinary team at the interface of theory and hardware Background in quantum control, open quantum systems, and quantum-classical noise is highly desirable Experience with trapped-ion systems is highly valued What you can expect from eleQtron: Competitive salary: We value our team members and therefore provide remunerations that reflect this, additionally rewarding achievements. Flexible working hours: We offer personal freedom through a variety of flexible work schedules. Team spirit: In our international and diverse team, and with our regular team events, having fun at work is simply part of the game.
