This role is within Shell Chemical's Logistics organization, supporting strategy development and deployment for rail operations in North America. The Rail Freight Contract Manager ensures that Shell Chemicals is adequately equipped to meet and exceed stakeholder expectations (including supply, customers, plants, and third-party vendors) with regard to HSSE, rail operations, commercial delivery, and resources not only in today's environment but also throughout the ongoing energy transition. Accountabilities: Work with stakeholders and peers to formulate solutions that meet future changes in demand, product requirements, and rail transportation solution Serve as an SME for rail transportation within the chemicals portfolio and other Shell businesses covered under the service level agreements Interact with the business and railroads to manage difficult situations such as embargoes, routing, shipment issues, business continuity planning, changing demand dynamics Lead commercial efforts with regards to new business opportunities, freight negotiations, business performance reviews (BPRs) and other rail related initiative Enterprise contract holder for rail contracts Lead the MOC process for rail freight related activities Review current systems and applications and seek to optimize/standardize/replicate whenever possible Help establish the Chemicals Logistics organization as a Center of Excellence for the transportation and handling of goods within Shell. Gain additional trust from the other Shell organizations we serve to provide better and more robust services Part of the BCP (Business Continuity Plan) team that addresses supply continuity during times of extreme weather, force majeures, and other business interruptions. Works under broad guidance and supervision by Manager for complex activities Executes activities with a consistent form or approach as well as those subject to variation Manage one or more operational Logistics projects Moderate exposure to and interaction with Shell business leadership and operational external stakeholders Manage enterprise rail contracts by collaborating with Procurement and cross-functional business units to define contract terms and address service failures, railcar transit issues, and BPRs Act as the Rail Subject Matter Expert (SME) by educating and coaching stakeholders on rail-specific nuances to strengthen engagement with Land Logistics and external suppliers What you bring Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant years of experience At least 5 years of experience in rail and contract management Strong commercial and operational acumen to deliver rail initiatives Working knowledge of rail, plant, and storage locations for liquid chemicals Familiarity with SAP and transportation management systems is a plus Ability to quickly understand and apply knowledge to address new and often complex issues arising from customer preferences, portfolio changes, and regulatory requirements Ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization Ability to influence others without direct reporting relationships and gain the trust of business stakeholders and commercial partners
