About the role

We are transforming how the LEGO Group leverages first-party customer data to power marketing, personalisation, and connected digital experiences. At the center of this transformation is a Customer Data Foundation, a set of core platforms and capabilities that span identity, consent, data ingestion, and audience creation. Together, these systems enable the LEGO Group to build a trusted, unified view of the customer and make that data available for activation across global channels. We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead this domain, owning both the technical direction and the engineering organization responsible for making customer data reliable, scalable, and usable across the company. This is a critical leadership role operating across multiple teams (~5 teams), working at the intersection of data, platform engineering, and marketing technology.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership of the domain
  • You'll guide architecture, platform strategy, and delivery quality, ensuring the solutions we build are robust, scalable, and aligned to long-term needs.
  • Engineering governance and standards
  • You'll bring structure and clarity to how decisions are made, establishing strong practices and enabling teams to move forward with confidence.
  • Business and technology alignment
  • You'll partner with stakeholders to translate needs into pragmatic technical approaches, balancing speed, quality, and commercial impact.
  • Developing engineering leaders
  • You'll coach and support engineering managers and senior engineers, helping them grow into confident, proactive leaders and strengthening the overall capability of the organization.
  • Data platform excellence
  • You'll contribute to the evolution of data pipelines and platform reliability, helping ensure a strong, scalable foundation that supports continued growth and innovation.
  • What you'll contribute to
  • This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys going deep on complex systems, building strong teams, and delivering tangible outcomes in a high-impact space.

Requirements

  • Experience leading engineering in customer data systems or related domains
  • Strong technical depth, particularly in data architectures, data governance and identity management
  • Experience working with commercial marketing teams
  • Experience with event tracking standards across web, app, and engagement products
  • A track record of developing people and building strong engineering cultures
  • Confidence navigating complexity and balancing multiple perspectives to drive progress
  • Familiarity with regulated data environments is beneficial
  • What you're stepping into
  • You'll join a leadership team with strong momentum and meaningful achievements, supported by a platform that plays a central role in delivering marketing and personalization impact globally.
  • This is a chance to shape a critical part of the organization, build on a solid base, and help unlock the next phase of growth and impact.
