About the role

The Controller for Thrivent Bank is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Bank's financial & regulatory reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads all accounting operations for Thrivent Bank, including general ledger, month ‑ end and quarter ‑ end close, financial reporting, call reporting and balance sheet governance. Ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, regulatory requirements, and Thrivent accounting policies. Oversees internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation, testing support, issue remediation, and continuous improvement of control effectiveness. Serves as a key partner to Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and external auditors; coordinates audits, examinations, and regulatory requests. Provides technical accounting guidance on new products, transactions, system changes, and business initiatives, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment and risk mitigation. Partners with Treasury, FP&A, and business leaders to support forecasting, capital planning, liquidity reporting, and strategic decision ‑ making . Leads, coaches, and develops a high ‑ performing accounting team; establishes clear expectations, builds capability, and ensures appropriate succession planning . Drives process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement to improve efficiency, scalability, and data quality. Maintains strong governance over accounting policies, procedures, and documentation. The Controller exercises significant influence over financial integrity, control design, audit outcomes, and accounting decisions that impact regulatory confidence and executive decision ‑ making . This position will be hybrid in Salt Lake City, UT QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting , Finance, or a related field. CPA required . 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, in cluding leadership roles within banking or financial services. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting. Demonstrated experience leading month ‑ end close, audits, and regulatory interactions. Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain high ‑ performing teams. Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to navigate complex issues with sound recommendations Preferred: Experience in a regulated banking environment. Prior experience partnering with regulators, external auditors, and enterprise risk teams. Experience with system implementations, accounting automation, or process transformation initiatives. Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Accounting ). The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $153,750.00 - $208,015.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions.
