The university is seeking to employee a Research Assistant ( HEO 5) to support the delivery of a research project which received $980K funding through the Medical Research Fund Traumatic Brain Injury mission. The project, "Enhancing Community Engagement in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Rehabilitation Through the Social Brain Toolkit" involves developing and piloting an innovative model of care - the Social Brain Clinic. The Social Brain Clinic involves student speech pathologists and mentors with lived experience of TBI working together to provide online programs to rebuild communication skills, to people with TBI located across Australia. This role will be embedded within the University of Sydney's ABI Communication Lab ( Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Communication Lab - ABI Communication Lab ) - a dynamic team of researchers, academics and clinicians who are developing innovative approaches in brain injury rehabilitation. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the multidisciplinary project team. They will take on a range of responsibilities including providing practice education for speech pathology students, supporting research data collection and management, developing resources and project communications, and participating in strategic planning for sustainability of this new clinic. Your key responsibilities will be to: Provide clinical oversight to the research program with support from clinician researchers within the project team Maintains responsibility for placements being undertaken by undergraduate or postgraduate speech pathology students within the research clinic Contribute to the design and development of clinical and student training resources Assist with data collection and analysis, ensuring data quality and accuracy Collaborate with researchers, clinical specialists, and affiliated partners to share findings and progress Facilitate ongoing communication with a broad range of stakeholders, proactively addressing any concerns, and collaborating with team members to continuously improve stakeholder relations Coordinate with the team to produce quality reports, verify data accuracy within university systems, and actively engage in compliance initiatives to uphold regulations Lead by example in prioritising health and safety within daily operations, coordinate with peers for safety drills and training, and proactively identify areas for safety improvement within the work scope Undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required. About you: Essential criteria: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia Qualified to practice as a speech pathologist in Australia A minimum of one year of clinical experience working as a speech pathologist Familiarity with research methodologies relevant to the discipline (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods) Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and solve problems Ability to follow research or clinical protocols and maintain accurate records Understanding of research ethics and integrity requirements Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical research practices. Desirable criteria Experience working with adults with traumatic brain injury, or other neurological conditions Experience providing practice education to student speech pathologist Experience supporting or conducting academic research activities (e.g., data collection, literature reviews, experiments, or fieldwork).
