About the role

The Surface Shop Mechanic will work closely with supervisors and other team members to maintain a safe work environment while adhering to company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Working from heights often in excess of 2000' with Safety harness requiring 100% tie off at all times PPE and safety devices
- Climbing stairs up to 15 stories multiple times per day with various tools, parts and supplies.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Maintain and repair, service trucks, forklifts, and light vehicles.
- Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and hydraulic diagrams.
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.
- Inspect equipment to identify safety concerns and potential failures.
- Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and component replacement as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with field repairs when required.
- Coordinate with operations personnel to prioritize equipment repairs.
- Ensure compliance with MSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist in managing repair parts.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Alabama certified hoist operator required (must obtain certifications within 3 months of being awarded Job
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in surface and/or underground mining, construction, or similar industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrain components. Must be able to pass welding, mechanical and hydraulic test administered by the company.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required MSHA certifications.
- Surface coal mining maintenance experience.
- MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 Surface and Underground Miner Training.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and equipment schematics.
- Proficiency with hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.

- Environment and Safety
- Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.

- Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training.
- Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
- Physical Requirements - Mining Operations:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.
- Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Will need to walk through different areas of the work area with different amounts of clearance and headroom.
- Must have ability and willingness to work in confined areas under extreme temperatures and wet muddy conditions.
- Walking ability will be based on SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.
- Must be able to wear the required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
- Must be able to bend or stoop for a full work period because of varying work heights.
