Job Description Job Duties Leads service line and/or organization-wide problem solving, re-design or new program projects. Leads strategy for growth and top-quality care for Women and Children's service line. Supervises department leaders and staff, engaging them in joint planning, decision making staff development and problem resolution for optimal outcomes. Interprets and communicates hospital policies, objectives and operating procedures to staff to ensure standardized, consistent work practices. Researches, monitors, implements and meets regulatory, accreditation and inspection standards ensuring quality care and patient safety. Serves as a clinical expert for Women and Children's patient population-enhancing patient centered care delivery. Ensures high quality and safe patient care using evidence-based practice, performance improvement, and service excellence. Identifies quality improvement opportunities based on quality metrics; works collaboratively with the service line Medical Directors on quality initiatives. Manages customer complaints in a timely and caring manner. Implements strategies to assure physician satisfaction. Conducts regular department meetings. Develops and/or maintains accurate job descriptions and performance standards for all job classifications within the department. Develops and utilizes a formal plan to recognize outstanding individuals or teams in their department. Implements key initiatives and demonstrates performance improvement within the department. Provides for mechanisms to measure, analyze and manage variation in the performance of defined processes. Practices cost containment efforts on a shift to shift basis by efficient use of time and resources, i.e., man-hours, patient charges, equipment, supplies. Achieves departmental budgets, establishes business plans and continually monitors for effectiveness. Prepares or provides input to preliminary Capital, FTE and Operating budgets for department/unit. Serves as a leader in developing a high quality and well-respected Women and Children's service line. Collaborates and builds meaningful relationships with professional colleagues within and outside Mercy to promote the Birthplace/ NICU/ Pediatrics service. Adopts and deploys technology to support the daily work of healthcare providers in this setting. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job- specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong knowledge in relevant areas of clinical practice and the ability to create a safe and effective care environment for patients. Ability to communicate effectively with all patients, visitors and staff. Ability to create and maintain a healthy work environment for staff. Demonstrates expertise in leadership and management skills. Must have strong mentoring skills. Professional Experience Minimum of 5 years clinical experience with at least 2 years at mid-level management position. Education Education sufficient to obtain RN licensure required. Master's degree in related field preferred. Licensure, Certification, Registration Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Iowa or compact state required. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse and Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
