The primary goal of HOMEBASE is to support communities in connecting youth to the right services, in the right place, and at the right time, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, multidisciplinary care, and early intervention. The Community Paramedic (CP) plays a key role in promoting health and preventing illness and supplements existing Primary Health Care services. This role is responsible for identifying health needs and risks, developing and implementing health programs, providing direct patient care, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to improve access to care and health outcomes for youth in the community. As part of the Mobile Integrated Health Team, the Community Paramedic works closely with YMCA Homebase staff and supports a diverse patient population, including youth requiring mental health and addiction services, physical health supports, and coordination of care and community-based services. The CP works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary framework alongside service providers such as Community Mental Health and Addictions, Primary Health Care, Psychiatry, Paramedic Services, justice and victims' services, child and family services, police services, and other community partners. As an employee of Medavie Health Services (MHS), Community Paramedics are accountable to patients and coworkers by actively participating in and supporting all safety-related initiatives and fostering a culture that prioritizes patient safety and a safe, respectful workplace. The position entails, but is not limited to the following: Independent primary clinical care. Maintain and operate ambulances and related equipment in accordance with patient needs and public safety. Clinical expectations and responsibilities for Primary Care Paramedics are based on the current National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP), the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics registration requirements and Medavie Health Services West policies, procedures, and protocols.
