About the role
The purpose of this position is to independently perform and coordinate epidemiologic surveillance, studies, program evaluation, and community health assessment activities supporting service unit clinical, preventive, and public health programs. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Applicants must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR), you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-09: Two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level Identify basic trends and patterns in health data and prepare tables, charts, summaries, and routine data visualizations. Collect, validate, organize, and perform routine analysis of epidemiologic and health-related data. Perform epidemiologic studies, surveys, and program evaluations using established protocols, methods and procedures. GS-11: Three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level Conduct epidemiologic surveillance and data analysis related to infectious diseases, chronic conditions, injuries, maternal-child health, behavioral health and other population health issues. Identify patterns, trends, disparities, and possible public health concerns and explain the significance of findings for program planning, monitoring, and follow-up action. Develop tables, charts, dashboards, reports and written summaries. NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
