Responsibilities

  • -Design, plan, conduct and coordinate field preparation, planting, cultivation and harvesting operations.
  • Determines the needs of pesticide and fertilizer and their application programs.
  • -Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of the research; keep detailed records of data collection from field experiments .
  • -Supervise undergraduate students during field operations.
  • -Establish, Install, maintain, operate and/or repair agricultural equipment including tractors, planters, cultivators, harvesters and irrigation system management.

  • Required Qualifications:
  • -Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Science, or related field.
  • -Four years of related professional experience.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of crop production practices and agronomy principles.
  • -Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.
  • -Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • -Field research experience with cotton or row crop production.
  • -Experience operating agricultural equipment including tractors and field implements.
  • -Agricultural equipment maintenance and repair experience.
  • -Irrigation system design, installation, and management experience.
  • -GPS and precision agriculture technology experience.
  • -Supervisory or training experience with student workers.
  • Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • -Pesticide application certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months of start date) a Texas Noncommercial Political Subdivision (NCPS) Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
  • -Ability to obtain valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Individual must be able to work under adverse outdoor conditions including high heat, humidity, and variable weather.
  • -Ability to lift and carry heavy objects greater than 50 lbs.
  • -Ability to work closely with cotton fiber, agricultural chemicals, or plant materials.
