About the role

Who will you work with? As part of our International Trade Compliance Leadership team, you will be focused on facilitating compliance with customs and export control laws and regulations while supporting business initiatives and savings optimization programs through centralized, best in class standard process controls within the Wabtec LATAM region. How will you make a difference? As a member of the Legal Compliance team, in the Customs Compliance Region Leader-LATAM position, your main responsibilities will include the responsible for managing and maintaining Wabtec Corporation's customs compliance strategy and enterprise standard for Wabtec entities acting as importer or exporter of record. This position works cross functionally as a customs compliance subject matter expert to implement and enforce Wabtec's custom compliance enterprise standard and policies, ensuring the highest compliance with customs laws and regulations while facilitating business operations. This position reports directly to the Director, Global Exports and Customs Compliance . What do we want to know about you? The requirements for this role are: - Bachelors (higher education) Degree and 9+ years industry customs compliance experience with people leader experience - Licensed Customs Broker or appropriate in-country equivalent certification - Deep knowledge of local customs, trade and other regulatory agency requirements that relate to import and export activities with a focus on LATAM - Self-Directed. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to influence others and work cross functionally to drive results in a highly matrixed organization. - Strong problem solving and process focused background that reflects accomplishments in teamwork, integrity, and attention to detail and accuracy - Ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a challenging environment - Demonstrated leadership and project management skills - Proficiency in Spanish and English - What will your typical day look like? - Responsible for compliance with LATAM Region customs laws and regulations - Operationalize the Wabtec Customs Compliance Enterprise Standard - Support establishment and maintenance of local standard work processes in alignment with Wabtec's Customs Compliance Enterprise Standard - Drive customs compliance process disciplines and timelines - Respond to customs related government inquiries as required - Lead Customs compliance issue resolution and address any trade compliance issues that arise in the region - Monitor and communicate customs regulatory changes affecting Wabtec business units - Conduct customs and trade compliance training as needed - Metric Reporting - Customs Broker/Agent oversight and management - Work with, support and advise local and global cross-functional business teams to identify, assess, and develop action plans with respect to customs compliance and operations risk abatement - Actively Liaison with the Global Customs Leader and local business stakeholders engaging collaboratively with cross-functional business teams - Support trade compliance requirements for customer projects across LATAM - Effectively coach & mentor direct reports MAJOR CHALLENGES: - Driving customs compliance business disciplines and engagement with diverse cross functional business teams and senior level leadership - Working with cross-functional teams to drive improvement and cost savings opportunities through tariff and special program management - Balancing business commercial needs with impeccable adherence to customs and trade regulatory and process requirements What about the physical demands of the job? The role is primarily office-based, but it requires ongoing interaction with production areas to ensure understanding of operational requirements. Basic safety equipment must be used when entering these areas.
