Assistant Underwriter (Specialty)

About the role

International specialty insurance provider operating in commercial markets. Evaluate, assess, and accept specialty risk accounts in accordance with corporate business plans and established authority limits. Support underwriting operations and business placement across the organization's corporate network. Cultivate and sustain professional relationships with market peers and intermediaries to secure new business and retain renewals. Act as the company representative during external intermediary and client meetings. Analyze placing documentation and technical risk data, leveraging expertise to make decisions or escalating complex cases to senior leadership. Manage, review, and endorse modifications to active contracts in compliance with underwriting philosophies. Maintain accurate records by logging risk entries directly into internal underwriting systems. Track and evaluate key metrics, including risk exposures, pricing structures, and income streams. Monitor outstanding balances and assist with credit control and premium collection processes. Adhere strictly to internal compliance frameworks, operational procedures, and regulatory guidelines. Champion positive conduct standards to ensure fair and optimal outcomes for all clients. Maintain a clear understanding of the organization's internal escalation pathways. Skills and Requirements Proven underwriting experience specifically within specialized commercial risk portfolios. Comprehensive understanding of commercial insurance market structures, protocols, and distribution networks. Demonstrated technical ability to analyze complex insurance documentation and contractual wording. Strong relationship-management and negotiation skills to secure profitable business. Proficiency in using underwriting systems, data management platforms, and reporting tools. Solid analytical skills for monitoring risk accumulation, pricing models, and financial data.
