The DePauw Police Officer is a fully sworn law enforcement officer per Indiana code 21-17-5. Officers provide for the overall safety and security of the university community and its properties. Officers must complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Certification and maintain their certification annually. DePauw Police Officers are charged with enforcing federal and state laws, as well as University policies. Officers provide proactive patrols, respond to calls for service and to emergencies, as well as provide educational programming to provide for a safe campus environment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reasonable Accommodations Statement To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Functions Statement(s) - Enforce the established rules and regulations of DePauw University and the Laws of the State of Indiana within the primary jurisdiction of the DePauw Police Department, including traffic and parking regulations. - Conduct pro-active mobile and foot patrols of University owned buildings, facilities, common areas and streets, and identifying and acting upon vulnerabilities in an effort to maximize the safety and security of faculty/staff, students, visitors and assets. - Respond to criminal and non-criminal complaints/incidents and initiate appropriate action. Conduct investigations of incidents which occur within the primary jurisdiction and within the extended jurisdiction as policy dictates. - Officers may arrest, without process, all persons who within view commit any offense, as defined and stipulated in the Indiana Criminal Code - Document criminal and related non-criminal incidents, using established reporting procedures and forms. Prepare written cases for University Community Standards and the Criminal Justice system when necessary. - Assist the University community by providing emergency services when needed as well as assisting with public relations services such as information, access, escorts, vehicle unlocks and jumpstarts. - Provide security, traffic control and aid in emergency readiness at various events as needed. - Provide or partner to provide safety education/awareness programs for University constituents. - Maintain a proficiency of knowledge regarding the University's Security Technology initiatives, including aiding in the routine inspection for proper operation. - Assist with performance evaluations and staff development, including training needs and aptitude at daily tasks. - Other duties as may be assigned by the Director.
