FTE: 1.0, Shift: days, Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 0800-1630 Position Summary The Surgical Services Equipment Specialist coordinates, maintains, plans and leads capital development and acquisition for Surgical Services instrumentation and equipment in a cost effective and timely manner, with a primary focus on patient and staff safety. This role oversees the BioMed/Clinical Engineering contracted program. Maintains continued learning and familiarization with the most current surgical techniques, instrumentation, equipment and technology in order to provide education and in-services to Surgical Services Staff as needed. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Coordinates and facilitates the needs of surgeons and staff for surgical cases. 2. Manages inventory and special requests. 3. Communicates and coordinates with vendors and internal stakeholders such as Materials Management, Central Services, and the surgical team to confirm instruments and equipment are available and ready for cases in advance. 4. Directs, coordinates and oversees all functions related to preventative maintenance, electrical safety testing, repairs and the safe and reliable functioning of biomedical patient care equipment. 5. Provides oversight of the BioMed/Clinical Engineering program to ensure that the equipment needs of all Yakima Valley Memorial are being met and maximizing their equipment up-time. 6. Plans and develops capital requests for surgical and procedural areas while maintaining a 5-10 year capital strategy. Assists in setting up and turning over operating rooms with equipment appropriate for the scheduled procedures. 7. Prioritizes requests for equipment and, when possible, stages items outside the operating room to expedite room turnovers. 8. Works with Surgical Services Leadership in ordering new equipment. 9. Educates users on the operation of new or updated equipment to ensure effective and efficient use. 10. Serves as the single point of contact for the surgical department related to equipment, instruments and single-use items/disposables, including troubleshooting issues. Escalates issues when needed to the appropriate department / personnel. 11. Researches and evaluates new or replacement technology. 12. Works to standardize the technology in all operating areas to enhance the ability to interchange equipment. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education : High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years of Operating Room experience required. Previous scrubbing experience preferred. Certifications : Certified Registered Central Service Technician and/or Certified Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
