Application Engineer (Financial Services/ Backend support)

About the role

An exciting opportunity for a technology professional to support and enhance enterprise applications within a dynamic insurance environment. This role combines application support, backend development, system integration, and cloud-based technologies to ensure reliable and secure business operations.

Responsibilities

• Deliver application support and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal system performance and availability.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, services, and APIs.
• Support integrations between internal platforms and third-party systems.
• Investigate application incidents, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions.
• Administer user access controls, ensuring compliance with security and governance standards.
• Support application testing, deployment, release management, and post-go-live activities.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, infrastructure teams, security teams, and external vendors.
• Assist with audit, compliance, and documentation requirements.
• Maintain technical documentation and knowledge repositories.
• Participate in after-hours support rotations when necessary.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in application support and backend software engineering.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Node.js, and relevant development frameworks.
• Strong experience with SQL and relational database technologies.
• Familiarity with Linux/Red Hat operating systems.
• Exposure to AWS cloud services, including EC2, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch.
• Strong analytical mindset with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Understanding of governance, risk, and compliance requirements within regulated environments.
• Desirable Skills & Experience
• Experience supporting insurance platforms such as Odyssey 2, Odyssey 5, unQork, InsureMO, Snowflake, or fileAI.
• Knowledge of API development, integration frameworks, and security best practices.
• Exposure to DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
• Experience working with vendor-managed applications and third-party software solutions.
• Background within insurance, banking, or financial services environments is advantageous.
