About the role

The Division of Civil Rights Labor Management (CRLM) within the Solicitor's Office is seeking a Staff Assistant to help manage our office. CRLM provides legal services to the Office of Labor-Management Standards, the Civil Rights Center, Center for Faith, Office of Disability Employment Policy, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, among others. Our Staff Assistant is the backbone of our legal team's daily operations, handling everything from budget administration. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for time-in-grade (52 weeks at the next lower grade), time-after-competitive-appointment (90 days), and minimum qualifications (52 weeks equivalent to the next lower grade in federal service). These requirements must be met within 30 days of 05/29/2026 the announcement closing date. You must meet the Basic Requirements listed in the Education Requirements section and the Specialized Experience to qualify for Staff Assistant, as described below. For GS-09: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-07 in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience for GS-09 includes (applicants must meet the specialized experience statements): Experience supporting an office or operational environment from an administrative support perspective to include time and attendance, drafting memos, coordinating schedules, and doing basic research. Experience managing human resources actions, onboarding and separation processing. Experience preparing and communicating technical and administrative information to legal staff. Or, you may also qualify by meeting education requirements: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or, 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or, LL.B. or J.D., if related. You may also use a combination of your education and experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements and may be computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.
