The Director of Wastewater Compliance acts as the primary liaison between executive management and wastewater operational teams for all matters related to the National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) compliance. The Director of Wastewater Compliance reports to the VP of Water Quality and will be responsible for overseeing all of California Water Service Group (CWSG) Wastewater and the Water Recycled Water Compliance programs across the business; ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory and environmental protection requirements company wide. The location of this position is to be determined. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Possess thorough knowledge and expertise in federal, state, and local wastewater regulations. Ability to interpret complex regulations, clearly communicate expectations for accountability and risk mitigation. Demonstrates strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence executive decision-making. Communicates effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. Oversee Cal Water Wastewater Compliance Operations at all wastewater treatment plants; perform the role of Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator as necessary. Responsible for maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal wastewater and recycled water treatment regulations; develops and maintains professional relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. Ensures all wastewater treatment plants effluent meet National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements and all other Federal and State regulatory requirements. Represents CWSG in agency or third-party inspections for process improvements and risks mitigation, manage internal audit program and implement necessary corrective actions. Oversee recycled water compliance programs across the business; assists other departments with recycled water matters and provides input for strategic goals. Stay on top of existing and upcoming regulations in the wastewater and recycled water regulatory environment, participate in the regulatory review process; lead strategic planning to ensure compliance with new regulatory requirements. Participates in capital and operational expense budgeting and ensures that established guidelines are met. Collaborate with Environmental Affairs, Safety, Security, Operations and Emergency Services to develop and implement emergency response plans for all wastewater treatment plants.
