A Senior Staff Geologist on Diamondback Energy's Subsurface Optimization team applies integrated subsurface analysis to de-risk drilling units and improve development outcomes across Permian Basin assets. This role translates geologic, geophysical, petrophysical, and geomechanical data into clear recommendations that enhance well placement, support completions efficiency, and protect development capital. A successful candidate will deliver data-driven recommendations that guide capital allocation, reduce drilling and completions risk, and support effective development planning across the asset. Job Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to Integrate various datasets including but not limited to geophysical data, structural mapping, drilling data, petrophysical, non-productive time events and geomechanical data to de-risk and optimize upcoming drilling units Generate comprehensive AFE risk assessments, pre-drill packages, and quarterly root cause analysis (RCA) appraisals in collaboration with multidisciplinary geoscience and engineering teams Develop and refine landing zone recommendations based on integrated geological, geomechanical, and petrophysical analysis Apply geomechanical principles to improve wellbore placement, anticipate completions challenges, and optimize frac design inputs Generate and interpret integrated maps, cross sections, petrophysical logs, and geomechanical model outputs to support well planning decisions Communicate subsurface recommendations clearly to management and cross-functional stakeholders, with supporting data and documented rationale Provide as-needed support to Execution Geoscientists during drilling of units Assist in mentoring and on-the-job development of less experienced geoscience team members Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Geology or related Geoscience discipline required Minimum ten (10) years of oil and gas geoscience experience required Proficiency in Petra and Kingdom (integrated geoscience platforms) required Working knowledge of Starsteer or equivalent geosteering platform required Foundational understanding of geosteering principles sufficient to evaluate lateral placement decisions and collaborate effectively with geosteering support functions Strong knowledge of geomechanical principles and their application to wellbore design and completions optimization Experience with unconventional reservoir characterization and horizontal pad development Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-disciplinary teams and communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
