Requirements

• Three years of surveying field experience INCLUDING one year of experience supervising and training technical staff performing land surveying (which may be concurrent with general experience).
• (Satisfactory completion of a construction surveying or elementary surveying course from an accredited college, vocational/technical school or military training may be substituted for two years of the required surveying experience.)

Pima County Transportation Department Construction Monitoring Division is seeking an experienced survey party chief to join our growing Survey Department. Duties will include but are not limited to establishing and monitoring survey control & monumentation, QA/QC of contractor construction staking. Plans, organizes, assigns, reviews and participates in all phases of the work of an assigned survey crew; Supervises various types of land surveys, such as design, easement/property, land, construction, photogrammetry and as-built; Researches and analyzes available information and data affecting proposed survey projects from a variety of sources, and then organizes required work to develop the required additional information; Completes and applies mathematical equations and calculations to land surveying work; Performs calculations, before and after land survey projects; Selects the most time-/cost-efficient methods to accomplish a land survey project; Conducts field survey work using GPS equipment, total station electronic/optical instruments, and other devices required in land surveying work; Utilizes data collector devices to record and collect geospatial data for each project; Produces and maintains accurate notes, records and sketches of all work performed and data secured in manual logs, records and forms and in computer-based systems; Maintains a clean and safe work environment and ensures that all equipment, instruments, and devices are kept in good working order; Directs the implementation of needed work-site safety and traffic control procedures to assure safety of survey crews; Trains survey crew in technical land survey and safety methods, techniques and procedures; Assigns work to, and evaluates performance of assigned staff.
