About the role
We are seeking a Corporate Counsel to support Ampol's Convenience Retail business, providing high-quality legal advice that enables the business to achieve its commercial objectives while effectively managing legal and regulatory risk. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders across a large and complex retail network, delivering pragmatic, solutions-focused guidance across commercial contracts, compliance, and dispute management. Responsibilities
- Provide clear, commercial and timely legal advice aligned to business objectives and risk appetite
- Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, understanding business plans and proactively identifying legal risks
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements
- Support the business on regulatory compliance matters, including competition, consumer and privacy laws
- Manage complaints, pre-litigation matters and external counsel for disputes and litigation
- Effectively prioritise and manage workload, balancing strategic and operational legal support
- Communicate key legal risks and recommendations in a practical and accessible way
- Contribute to the broader Group Legal function through collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Keep senior legal stakeholders informed of key developments, risks and workload priorities
- Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5 years' PQE in a top or mid-tier law firm
- Proven experience providing commercial legal advice within a corporate or retail environment
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills across a variety of commercial agreements
- Sound knowledge of Australian regulatory frameworks including competition, consumer and privacy laws
- Experience managing disputes, including working with external counsel
- Ability to deliver practical, solutions-oriented advice to non-legal stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a proactive and collaborative approach
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
- Commercially minded with the ability to understand and support business strategy
