Our goal is to provide valuable and insightful information about potential underlying genetic conditions, guiding patients and providers to improved health outcomes. We are seeking an Associate Lab Technologist at our Pittsburgh state-of-the-art omics laboratory to perform clinical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in newborns. Role& Responsibilities: Is proficient in 50-75% departmental assays or processes as determined by the department manager/supervisor Prepares specimens for analysis and organizes tests to be performed. Prepares and properly labels reagents required for laboratory testing. Conducts analyses of dried blood spots or body fluid to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Reviews test results, maintains legible work records, and enters findings into the laboratory information systems. Performs routine preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment according to established schedules and procedures. Verifies proper instrument function by checking and calibrating lab instruments and documents data. Troubleshoots and records in instrument logs any repairs, part replacements and maintenance performed on laboratory instruments. Participates, as requested, in the training of new employees. Abides by laboratory safety policies and procedures. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Demonstrates willingness to take on additional duties and assist coworkers in completing daily tasks. Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a life or physical science such as chemistry, biology, or medical technology.
- A minimum of 6 months to one year of clinical laboratory experience.
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Schedule is dayshift Tuesday to Saturday.
- Clinical and research lab environment; exposure to blood borne pathogens; must wear protective lab gear including lab coat, gloves and completely closed footwear.
- Employee may be requested to work other shifts other than daylight depending on the needs of the laboratory.
- Weekend rotation may be required.
- Travel is not required.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use a keyboard, type, and occasionally stand and move to other parts of the lab.
- Must have manual dexterity to use lab equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
