Requirements

  • 15 or more years of experience directly related to the mining industry, including environmental review, permitting, and reclamation.
  • Recent environmental consulting experience.
  • Relevant skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and direct multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and consultatively with clients, regulators, and project teams.
  • Proven skills in negotiation, problem-solving, project organization, and producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Track record of meeting deadlines, fulfilling commitments, and mentoring staff.
  • Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
  • Helpful additional experience (not required):
  • Familiarity with regulatory agencies and officials in western U.S. jurisdictions such as New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.
  • Established relationships with mining clients and strong industry knowledge.
  • Participation in mining-related trade organizations such as NMA, SME, and AEMA.

The role - what you'll do Barr is seeking a highly experienced senior environmental consultant with a strong mining focus to work with clients to identify, scope, and manage integrated environmental permitting and engineering projects across the full life cycle, from greenfield development through closure. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices to produce high-quality technical documents for regulatory review. The position is client-facing and relationship-driven, requiring frequent interaction with federal, state, and local regulators; non-governmental organizations; resource managers; industry representatives; technical experts; and interested stakeholders. A successful candidate is intrinsically motivated, consultative in style, flexible, and committed to delivering successful projects that strengthen long-term client relationships and support future business opportunities. Your impact - key responsibilities Permitting and compliance: assisting clients with permitting, environmental regulatory compliance, and related technical assignments. Client service: collaborating with clients to identify and address environmental issues, including regulatory applicability determinations, preparing compliance plans and reports, developing permitting applications, and performing technical and economic feasibility studies. Client management: sustain and grow relationships with existing mining clients through successful project execution and consultative engagement. Team leadership: leading and managing highly collaborative project teams and developing internal team members. Agency engagement: participating in meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel. Business development: engaging in business development activities, including the development of proposals, scopes of work, and appropriate budgets.
