Machining Technician

Responsibilities

• Machine Operation and Setup
• Operate and set up machinery for:
• Dish head forming (e.g., hydraulic presses, spinning machines)
• Plate rolling (3-roll / 4-roll machines)
• Plate pressing (hydraulic or mechanical presses)
• Structural beam bending machines
• Cone forming equipment
• Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machine settings and forming sequence.
• Select appropriate tooling, dies, and rollers based on material type and thickness.
• Production and Fabrication
• Perform forming, bending, and shaping of metal plates and structural components to required dimensions and tolerances.
• Monitor machining parameters (pressure, speed, temperature, alignment) during operations.
• Ensure consistency in product quality across batches.
• Carry out trial runs and adjustments to achieve precise forming results.
• Quantity Control
• Inspect finished products using measuring tools (calipers, gauges, templates).
• Verify dimensions, curvature, and structural integrity against specifications.
• Identify defects such as cracks, deformation, or misalignment and take corrective action.
• Maintenance and Troubleshooting
• Perform routine machine maintenance and lubrication.
• Identify and troubleshoot machine issues or abnormal operations.
• Coordinate with maintenance team for major repairs or breakdowns.
• Ensure machines are in good working condition before operation.
• Workplace Safety and Compliance
• Adhere strictly to safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Operate machinery in compliance with company safety standards and regulations.
• Maintain clean and organized work area.
• Report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly.
• Documentation and Reporting
• Record production data, machine settings, and output quantities.
• Maintain logs for maintenance, inspections, and job completion.
• Report production issues or delays to supervisors.
• Job Requirements
• Education and Experience
• NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 2-5 years of experience in metal forming, fabrication, or heavy machinery operation.
• Experience in pressure vessel, structural steel, or fabrication industry preferred.
• Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of metal forming processes (rolling, pressing, bending, spinning).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with different materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys).
• Basic knowledge of machine calibration and tooling setup.
• Soft Skills
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong sense of responsibility and safety awareness.
• Physical Requirements
• Ability to handle heavy materials and work in a fabrication environment.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, or in outdoor/plant conditions.
