About the role
A postdoctoral position is available at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to study cell biology of pancreatic islets and diabetes. The ongoing projects will focus on beta cell membrane trafficking and its roles in regulating insulin secretion in health and diabetic conditions. The group utilizes molecular biology/CRISPR, cell biology, live-cell imaging, vEM, multi-omics, and mutant mouse models to study beta cells and diabetes. Live-cell and super-resolution fluorescence imaging is another strength of the group, multiple advanced microscopies, including confocal, TIRF, SIM, STORM, and STED microscopes, are readily accessible. (See https://www.mcw.edu/departments/cell-biology-neurobiology-and-anatomy/people/xuelin-lou-phd). Applicants should have the demonstrated research skills in the relevant field, research independence, and communication skills. Experience in the related field, such as beta cell biology, actin cytoskeleton dynamics, mitochondria metabolism, or diabetes are highly preferred. Desirable expertise may include primary beta cell cultures from transgenic mouse models, molecular biology and CRISPR techniques, super-resolution microscopy, or live cell imaging. This position provides opportunities to develop innovative research projects/skills and promote career growth in a collaborative setting. The PI is committed to mentoring young scientists and nurturing creative thinking and scholarship. The laboratory is in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy at the main campus of MCW, a vibrant private medical school on the west shore of Lake Michigan. All applicants with relevant backgrounds are encouraged to apply, and application review will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should apply through the MCW portal, and send a single pdf file (including a cover page, CV, one-page research plan) and three reference letters to xulou@mcw.edu for attention. Primary Responsibilities Plan projects and perform experiments with strong independence. Analyze data and summarize research findings. Develop new research projects or novel methods.
