About the Position: This is a developmental Medical Technician position located at Guthrie Army Health Clinic, Fort Drum, New York. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes collecting specimens, assisting with preparing samples for testing, or reviewing results for validity. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes collecting specimens, preparing specimens for testing, and preparing results reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes collecting specimens, performing complex medical laboratory tests and examinations, checking results for accuracy and validity, and preparing results reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) AND Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is required for the GS-07 position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification.) This position can be filled at any level (GS-5; GS-6; or GS-7) with noncompetitive promotion to the next grade levels are authorized until you reach the full performance level of GS-7; pending time in grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next higher/target level grade duties.
