Proficiency and certification in the operation of heavy highway maintenance equipment will result in eligibility for promotion to a Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior at $21.470 per hour. Exciting Added Pay Differentials! In this classification, those who hold a CDL and are utilized to perform CDL functions on a regular basis shall receive a pay differential of: $1/hour after 1 year of continuous service, an additional $1/hour after 3 years of continuous service, an additional $1/hour after 5 years of continuous service. Job Duties: Operate trucks and other light equipment; drive trucks to transport crews or materials to work sites. Operate tractors with various attachments, including disc, harrows, seeders, 15-foot mowers, sprayers, and hand mowers to maintain highways and highway right-of-ways. Operate post drivers for the installation of signs, fences, and guardrails, and oth handheld power and manual tools. Perform manual labor for concrete and bituminous patching and sealing of cracks in highways and structures. Perform varied maintenance functions, such as armor coating and blade patching. Manually provide highway traffic control for construction and maintenance projects, according to safety procedures. Safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload various equipment, materials, supplies, and hazardous materials or objects from the roadway within weight restrictions; spread and tamp surfacing material. Complete routine and general maintenance and mechanical repair on equipment. Repair highway signs. Perform snow removal. Operate heavy highway maintenance equipment. May apply chemicals of selective and non-selective herbicides to spray highway right-of-way. Will work with the paint crew striping highways. Perform other duties as assigned.
