About the role

IT Specialist vacancies will be filled under the Department of Labor (DOL) Recent Graduates program in the excepted service. DOL Recent Graduate appointments are one-year. The entire duration of the program constitutes a trial period. Upon successful completion of the program, and at the agency's discretion, appointees may be converted to term or permanent positions in the competitive service. Candidates must meet the Minimum Qualifications listed below. Competencies As a trainee, you are expected to show basic proficiency in core competencies. These competencies support the work you will perform as you learn, take on more challenging tasks, and progress toward full proficiency at higher grade levels. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Interpersonal Skills - Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations. Reasoning - Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions. Teamwork - Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals. Specialized Experience Specialized experience is defined as the knowledge, skills, and abilities/competencies which demonstrate the likelihood of successful performance in the position. This experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Applicants may qualify for this GS-7 IT position based on meeting the competencies above and demonstrating one year of specialized experience assisting with one or more of the following: development tasks using Java, .NET, C#, C++, Python, JavaScript, or HTML; computational programming tasks using R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, MATLAB, or Mathematica.
