Mission This role is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Avery Dennison Global Materials Group Procurement Organization that is comprised of Label and Packaging Materials, Graphics Solutions, Reflective Solutions, Performance Tapes and Adhesives businesses, with a focus on ensuring competitiveness and value creation on the ~$3B global spend. This role will look over all the global categories (Papers, Films, Chemicals) and will enable spend and category optimization as well as building a united community of category managers across the world. Reporting Structure: Will report directly to the President of Materials Group. Location: The position is based in either Oegstgeest, The Netherlands (Amsterdam - The Hague area), or Mentor, Ohio. Global travel is required. Critical Responsibilities Functional Leadership: Lead the global Materials Group procurement organization which looks after global categories such as Paper, Films, Chemicals and Indirects (total spend ~ $3B). Guide and coach the five regional Procurement Leaders (and a team of about 100 FTEs) who also serve as global Category Leaders. Functional Excellence: Continue to implement and further evolve the ongoing global procurement initiatives. Stay on top of the latest thinking and deploy best practice processes and tools at Avery Dennison (e.g., should-cost modeling, total cost of ownership). Digitalization and AI: Drive the digitalization of our procurement processes, and leverage AI to improve negotiation outcomes, costs and resiliency, and automate procurement processes. Procurement Strategy: Contribute to the overall Materials Group strategy; develop category strategies which support the business objectives. Be aware of regional differences and support the regional procurement leaders to translate global strategies into regional plans. Surplus Creation: Drive increased productivity year over year by both material cost-out and thoughtful evolution of our supplier base. Conduct structured RFX processes taking into account the total cost of ownership. Differentiation and Innovation: Stay on the leading-edge of materials trends, creating first-mover advantages and delivering innovation to the business. Partner with Product Line and R&D teams to determine future sourcing needs. Develop supplier innovation plans to support the growth of our business. Supply Security and Resilience: Assess and proactively address potential supply risks. Create sourcing options by qualifying alternative suppliers. Identify and mitigate risks (geopolitics, climate, compliance) to the global supply chain. Sustainability: Partner with the sustainability organization to engage suppliers and deliver improvements on key material topics, including Scope 3 GHG emissions and water reduction. Introduce more sustainable materials to our Product Innovation teams. Supply Chain Due Diligence: Support efforts to improve visibility of chemical and human rights risks across the Materials Group supply chain. Market Intelligence: Share market, competitive, and geo-political intelligence on a regular basis in all aspects of the supply chain to enable the enterprise to navigate accordingly. Supplier Relationship Management: Segment supplier base and identify preferred partners in line with our Avantage Supplier Program. Build and manage supplier relationships on a senior level. Internal Stakeholder Management: As a member of the Materials Group Leadership team, partner closely with peers. Make sure regional GMs get the necessary input required to align pricing with inflation. Closely work with R&D and Product Line Teams on cost-out and innovation initiatives. Work with Operations and Supply Chain to drive productivity and proactively manage supply issues. Skills & Capabilities Skillset: Excellent strategy building & execution skills.
