The evaluation service links on the following site are provided by South Texas College for your convenience but are not affiliated with South Texas College: NACES Members Job Description General Statement of Job Under direct supervision of a manager or a delegated Team Leader, the Intern participates in a 10-week internship program in various areas of Facilities Planning and Construction. Interns are given various assignments that increase in complexity as they become more skilled in different functions, including construction planning, project coordination, facilities management, blueprint and document review, site inspections, civil engineering support, and administrative operations. This role provides an opportunity for students to receive professional training and acquire hands-on experience in the facilities and construction field. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Provides support and assistance to the Facilities, Planning and Construction Department. Visits existing facilities to gather information on existing conditions. Visits construction sites to gather information needed by project managers. Assists with organizing and filing of various construction project documents and electronic drawing files. Assists with developing electronic drawing files, plans and data needed for various projects. Assists with projections for construction accounts expenditures. Assists with development, execution and amendments of contracts with architects, engineers, and contractors. Assists with the tracking and review of payment applications from architects, engineers, and contractors. Assists with development, execution and amendments of contracts with architects, engineers, and contractors Prepares electronic scanned copies of construction documents including plans, specifications and financial data. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience 1. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and graduating from a high school partnering with South Texas College or enrolled at South Texas College and meet one of the following requirements: Must be working towards of the following South Texas College credentials: A.) Construction Management Associate or Certificate B.) Architecture Associate or Certificate C.) Architectural and Engineering Design Technology Associate or Certificate Must be able to provide a high school transcript and demonstrate an interest in or have previous experience in construction, construction management, architecture, or architecture engineering and design technology. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, AutoCAD, BIM, and internet research skills. Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines. Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others. Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations. Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College. Ability to read, analyze and interpret construction documents, building regulation manuals and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to other department and college staff. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
