About the role
An Athletic Trainer is required to be flexible with daily scheduling and will be required to work primarily off-site for sporting event coverage. An athletic trainer is supervised by the Director of Sports Physical Therapy & Performance. The athletic trainer will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC). The primary responsibilities of the athletic trainer are to educate the public on injury prevention, rehabilitation, wellness and other health-related issues; and to maintain the highest standards of care and integrity. The primary location of work will include school, or university treatment headquarters; or at practice or game sites. Outside of the primary duties, the athletic trainer may also provide assistance with Outpatient Physical Therapy and Sports Performance. Within the Outpatient Therapy clinics, the athletic trainer would assist with patient care to improve overall efficiency, quality, and patient experience in the clinic as needed. The athletic trainer may assist Sports Performance with the design and/or execution of individual and/or small group instruction for that clientele.
Responsibilities
- Builds trusting collaborative relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs. Collaborates appropriately with other disciplines to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Participates positively in the training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed. Proactively participates in and provides feedback to team members/learners.
- Promotes a healthy community through participation in sports performance, educational offerings, pre-season physicals, screenings, health fairs, and other health promotion opportunities.
- Demonstrates reliability and persistence in following through with assignments on schedule.
- Works closely with other members of sports medicine team to determine opportunities for increasing referrals within RHS, capturing additional customers, and growing the sports medicine program.

- Education
- Bachelors Degree, Health Education, Athletic Training, or related field (Required)
- Masters Degree, Health Education (Preferred)
- 1 year Athletic training (Preferred)
- Licenses and Certifications
- Athletic Trainer (ATC) - Board of Certification Inc (BOC) BOC certification in good standing Upon Hire(Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)

Newport News, Virginia Hiring Range $53,900.00 - $74,150.00/Annual Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
