The Impact: As a Senior Analyst on the Charter Schools team, you will be leading credit analysis for charter schools, independent schools, and community colleges. You will play a significant role in initiatives to improve efficiencies in public finance credit analysis while providing professional expertise to enhance the knowledge and skill base of our organization. As part of your role, you will meet with issuers, assess historical and projected data, and compile this information into a thorough committee presentation and effective written analysis. You may also participate in moderately complex analytical and deal-specific situations, assist in resolving client needs, participate in investor calls with more senior analysts, and contribute to research for publications or special projects. You will be called upon by senior staff to advise on complex issues and larger clients using your analytical perspective, while building relationships with peers outside of your immediate team.
Responsibilities
- This position is key to maintaining our market relevance and meeting our transaction requirements. Specifically, in this role, the analyst will:
- Serve as the primary analyst on credit transactions and prepare well-supported rating recommendations for rating committees, with clear rating reports supporting our credit opinion
- Serve as an active, vocal voting member of the rating committee, which deliberates rating outcomes and reviews materials prior to publication
- Publish timely and insightful credit reports as well as contribute to relevant research pieces
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of ratings criteria and financial statement analysis, while staying informed on relevant news and issues affecting credit quality in the municipal bond market
- Evaluate multiple analytical scenarios and communicate rationale clearly in group settings
- Mentor and provide analytic support to more junior analysts
- All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week
Requirements
- Basic Required Qualifications:
- An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 2-5+ years of experience in public finance credit analysis, municipal bond analysis, or related financial analysis roles
- Ability to think independently and critically with strong integrity, analytical curiosity, problem-solving and research skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas across functions and levels, including the ability to evaluate multiple analytical scenarios and communicate rationale clearly in group settings
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated skills in quantitative analysis
- Ability to accurately interpret data and appropriately apply criteria to generate key relevant analytical insights and conclusions
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with incomplete or conflicting data and identify options in non-routine situations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, aptitude for learning new applications/proprietary software, and familiarity with generative AI tools
- We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer
- Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA, MPA, MPP, JD, and/or CFA preferred
- Knowledge of GASB and FASB accounting standards
- Experience in the municipal market with specific focus on charter schools, independent schools, or community colleges
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and markets, with knowledge of S&P's analytical products
