What Your Job Will Be Like: Join a dynamic team that helps tackle some of the most challenging issues facing our nation's security! You could be the highly motivated R&D Systems Engineer to be part of our dynamic team! On any given day, you may be called on to: Define our customers' needs, develop design requirements, and generate concepts through production, implementation, and field support Lead engineering projects with multi-disciplinary teams involving electrical, mechanical, systems, quality and nuclear engineers, and nuclear safety analysts Work independently or within multi-disciplinary team environments Lead elements of the engineering program; design engineering, systems engineering, and configuration management by developing and improving processes and procedures Use your experience with nuclear reactor instrumentation, control, fuel health, inspection and monitoring techniques, safety or non-safety related systems Evaluate, test, and perform high-level analysis of system functionality and subsystem contribution to system function, ensuring that system performance requirements and acceptance criteria are met Develop programming and/or data automation software Prepare technical reports and briefings Support a large and very diverse body of legacy hardware, software, and the associated activities and users The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary. Salary Range: $117,500 - $235,700 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Require: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance Qualifications We Desire: The ideal R&D S&E Systems Engineer candidate will in addition possess the following: Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation). Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO). Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. Also for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience: Familiarity with DOE nuclear facility programs and processes Experience with mechanical component and assembly analysis including the use of SolidWorks and/or other 3D modeling and simulation software Experience with software development, programming, or analysis tools such as LabView, ABAQUS, ANSYS, MOOSE, BISON, DOORS, or Magic Draw Desire to learn new skills as required and develop expertise in areas that may be unfamiliar Proven track record of working independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment, building consensus and resolving issues Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare clearly written technical reports and briefing About Our Team: The Nuclear Facility Engineering & Maintenance Department (Org. 1385) provides engineering analysis, design, performance monitoring, config
