Performs scheduled and preventive maintenance on machine dies and fixtures. Fabricates parts for maintenance and production. Ensures accuracy and safety in all operations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Utilize Manu lathes, MIG, TIG, ARC welders and surface grinders to repair dies and fixtures as well as machine components to support production machinery. Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output. Fabricate missing or damaged parts using vertical mills, lathes. Machine or sharpen blades and parts for maintenance and production. Work with Engineers to design and fabricate parts and assemblies that are required for process improvement. Perform other related duties and assignments as required. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Maintain supplies at workstations in machine shop Work on assigned work orders from maintenance connection daily to accurately record time worked. Attend daily morning meetings in machine shop and monthly plant meetings. Actively participate in all plant safety programs. Notify department supervisor if proper tools are not furnished to complete job functions. Respond to on-call emergencies as needed. Education: Technical school training or machinist apprenticeship, plus high school graduate/GED. Experience: Minimum of four years' experience as a general machinist/ fabricator required. Knowledge: Knowledge of metal properties and other material properties. Must have knowledge of geometry and trigonometry concepts. Mental/Physical/Visual Demands: Must be able to read blueprints. Must be able to work and communicate well with others. Must have measuring skills and problem-solving skills. Must have correctable eyesight and hearing and be able to differentiate between colors. Must have excellent mechanical aptitude and above average math aptitude. Physical demands include bending, lifting up to 50 pounds maximum, pulling and lifting with assistance 50 to100 pounds, pushing, reaching, standing, twisting, and walking. Must be able to respond appropriately to immediacy of repairs. Must be skilled with mills, lathes, drill press, surface grinder, band saw, and hand tools and MIG welders. Working Conditions: Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to equipment noise, temperature extremes, and dust. Work involves exposure to rapidly moving machinery. Constant attention to safe practices is required. Equipment/Tools Used: Manual lathes, vertical mills. drill presses, bridgeport surface grinders, allen wrenches, angle blocks, calculator, calipers, chisels, dial indicators, edge finders, files, hammers, height gauges, micrometers, parallels, protractors, punches, radius gauges, screwdrivers, scribes, sine bars, tap handles, tape measure, welders (MIG, TIG, ARC), wrenches, safety glasses, hearing protection (where applicable), and steel toed shoes. Safety: Safe work performance is required from each Associate at all times.
