About the role
Job description: Shape the future of technology at one of the UK's top Russell Group universities. As Deputy CTO, you'll lead the software development, DevOps, integration, and web teams responsible for the University's core student records system and wider technology estate. Reporting to the CTO, you'll own the technical roadmap, drive modernisation of platforms built on AWS, Java, Oracle, Salesforce, and Python, and work alongside Architecture and Product to ensure we deliver reliable, well-engineered systems that support excellent teaching and an outstanding student experience. Who We're Looking For We're seeking an experienced technology leader with a track record of running and modernising complex, business-critical systems. You'll need credible technical judgement across cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, and integration, combined with the leadership skills to develop high-performing teams and navigate a large, federated organisation. This role sits at the heart of IT Services' transition to product-led delivery, launching January 2026. You'll drive technical modernisation whilst adapting your teams to work effectively with new Product and Architecture functions. If you understand what it takes to keep critical systems running whilst systematically improving them, and you can earn the trust of senior stakeholders across a complex institution, we want to hear from you. What We Offer: We are dedicated to exploring flexible work arrangements that benefit both the individual and University. You will become part of the IT Services team during a transformative phase, where your insights will play a crucial role in improving planning and service improvements.
