*All candidates must be working for a NYC agency and be permanent in the title of Supervisor of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment)* The New York City Department of Correction seeks to hire an experienced SOM (ME) as Deputy Director of Fleet Maintenance and Operations. The Deputy Director will be responsible for various operations and functions of a unit comprised of garage operations, pumping stations, or a similar repair and maintenance function, involving planning, directing, and coordinating repair and maintenance activities; performs administrative work. The employee will report directly to the Director of the Fleet Maintenance and Operations Unit. The qualified candidate will coordinate the operation, maintenance, servicing, and repairs of all vehicles. Ensures that adequate supply of proper parts is maintained in all stockrooms. Initiates purchase of parts and equipment. Contacts vendors to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner. Prepares and keeps track of records and weekly reports for submission to the Fleet Director. Manages compliance with City Policies and effective fleet management. Can also operate motor vehicles when need be. Makes inspections and reviews work progress. Acts as a liaison with departmental units and other outside organizations. The candidate will be responsible for assisting and advising the Director in planning, reviewing, and coordinating programs aimed at cost-effectiveness of vehicle replacements and efficient utilization of the vehicles. Performs other duties as requested/required by the Fleet Director. The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual who is familiar with mechanics. Has the ability to work both independently as well as part of a team and demonstrates the ability to work proficiently under pressure. Experienced in supervising, managing both capital and expense of all DOC Fleet vehicles, prepares budget proposals and participates in the deliberations relating to formulating and approving budget plans. At least two years' experience as a Supervisor of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment) is preferred SUPERVISOR OF MECHANICS(MECHAN - 92575 Qualification Requirements 1. Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an Auto Machinist, Auto Mechanic, Auto Mechanic (Diesel), Electrician (Automobile) or Machinist, two years of which must have been at a supervisory level; or 2. At least five years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school, or relevant education in an accredited college, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational high school. One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each 30 semester credits in college. However, all candidates must have the two years of supervisory experience described in "1" above. License Requirements Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. For appointment to certain positions a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions may be required. The Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions must be maintained for the duration of employment.
