Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve the AI platform: Design scalable, resilient infrastructure for model training, evaluation, deployment and monitoring - spanning both batch and real-time workloads.
- Lead GenAI platform initiatives: Build and maintain internal tooling for LLM orchestration, prompt management, RAG pipelines, guardrails, and evaluation frameworks (e.g. LLM-as-judge, red-teaming workflows).
- Drive MLOps maturity: Own and improve CI/CD for ML models, automated retraining pipelines, model versioning, A/B experimentation, and drift/performance monitoring.
- Build for scale and reliability: Apply software engineering best practices - clean code, testing, observability, SLOs - to ML systems that run in production at enterprise scale.
- Shape the feature ecosystem: Develop and maintain feature stores and data pipelines that serve both online and offline ML use cases, with a focus on low-latency access and data quality.
- Mentor and uplift the team: Act as a technical anchor for junior and mid-level engineers; lead code reviews, architecture discussions, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with data scientists, AI engineers, product teams and enterprise architects to translate business requirements into robust platform capabilities.
- Contribute to north star thinking: Identify opportunities to improve developer experience, reduce toil, and build forward-looking platform capabilities that keep Amex GBT ahead of the curve.
Requirements
- Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on ML/AI platform or MLOps engineering. Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent; Master's a plus.
- Platform engineering depth: Strong proficiency in Python and/or Java; experience building and operating production AI systems end-to-end.
- Cloud & infrastructure: Hands-on AWS expertise (Bedrock, SageMaker, EKS, S3, Lambda, Kinesis, Glue, or equivalents); comfortable with Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern infrastructure-as-code practices.
- MLOps tooling: Practical experience with ML orchestration and experiment tracking tools (e.g. MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow, Metaflow, or similar); CI/CD for AI workflows.
- Gen AI foundations: Working knowledge of LLM integration patterns - RAG, function calling, prompt engineering, context management, guardrails and LLM observability tooling.
- Agentic AI architecture: Demonstrated experience designing and building agentic systems - including tool-use, multi-agent orchestration frameworks (e.g. LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI), memory management strategies, and human-in-the-loop patterns for safe and reliable agent behavior in production.
- Feature & data platform: Familiarity with feature stores (e.g. Feast, Tecton, SageMaker Feature Store) and streaming data patterns (Kafka, Kinesis); strong understanding of data modeling and access patterns for ML.
- Observability & quality: Experience with model monitoring (data drift, concept drift, performance degradation). Solid grounding in testing strategies for AI systems.
- Soft skills: Strong communicator capable of translating complex technical trade-offs to non-engineering stakeholders; collaborative, opinionated but open, and energized by working at the frontier of AI.
