Responsibilities
- Safety:
- By inspection, direction, training and job safety analysis, ensure that safe working conditions exist and that staff follow safe working procedures, policies and divisional programs.
- Conduct safety talks, safety equipment inspections, prepare job safety analyses, and participate in accident investigations.
- Understand, adhere to, and ensure crews obey all standards and expectations of the Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA).

- Management Accountability:
- Manage the work of staff, in a multi-discipline setting, including planning, organizing, scheduling, estimating, coordinating, assigning, and checking work, costs, schedules and dates.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standards, methods and procedures governing the work.
- Provide guidance and direction to staff and be accountable for the quality and quantity of work.
- Execute all personnel matters, including training, discipline, performance assessments, training, administering applicable collective agreements and human resources policies, and provide effective recommendations to Manager regarding staff.
- Prepare for and defend decisions at grievance proceedings. Prepare formal appraisals for direct reports and assess their need for upgrading and improvement. Validate and sign time sheets, and vacation requests.
- Coordinate Resources:
- Prepare schedules, estimates, and detail all work required to complete assigned tasks in the proper sequence and highlight the involvement of other disciplines, including electrical, piping, reinforcing and mechanical, trades and associated disciplines.
- Coordinate and be accountable for assigned tasks to ensure that resources are efficiently used, material is available, access and staff strength are maintained, and down time between activities is minimized so that key deadlines are achieved.
- Direct the various phases of work associated with all staff and general maintenance in completing assigned blocks of work for both planned and forced outage conditions. Requires supervising BTU and may require supervising PWU trades as work plans dictate.
- Provide advice and direction to direct reports to resolve problems associated with getting the job done. Handle matters related to the interpretation of drawings and specifications, access to work areas, conflict with others, technical problems, personnel problems, and resources needed, on a day-to-day basis.
- Provide Direction:
- Carry out or oversee pre-job briefings.
- Ensure staff are conversant with all policies, procedures, OHSA, safety, and work aspects, expected cost objectives, production targets, availability of equipment and tools, starting and completion dates. Ensure that work performed by staff meets draw

The First Line Manager, Construction is accountable for various phases of modifications and rehabilitation work associated with a nuclear generation facility and will manage a multi- disciplined work force involved in the execution of assigned scopes of work through subordinate supervisors. This position will involve detailed planning, scheduling, estimating, organizing and control of staff, contractors, vendors and resources, for planned and forced outage circumstances, to meet scheduled completion dates and maintain control of costs. The FLM will ensure that work is performed safely, achieving quality standards and within guidelines of the corporate direction and government regulations, and will be accountable for all aspects of safety and procedural oversight.
