Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and case management, to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at UT Austin.
  • Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.

  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations
  • Develops linkages with key contacts of the designated population for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students
  • Provide outreach and support to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at UT Austin and campus partners.
  • Develop and provide workshops on mental health concerns for students, faculty and staff within identified college, school or unit
  • Provide outreach to faculty/staff related to student mental health
  • Provides individual consultative support to faculty/staff on student mental health concerns

  • Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
  • Participates in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.
  • Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • May provide clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students.
  • Provides individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents.
  • Provides individual supervision of group co-leaders.
  • Supervises interns' supervision of practicum students.
  • Co-leads training seminars.
  • Offers and supervises preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.
  • Participates on training-related committees.
  • Participates in training activities during the orientation period.
  • Timely signature on clinical documentation and communication with supervisor of relevant issues.

Training and supervision are provided to psychology and social work interns, psychiatric residents, and psychology practicum students. The center's large, multidisciplinary staff includes psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and licensed professional counselors.
