Additional Information
The Front Line Support Manufacturing Engineer serves as the first line of engineering defense on the production floor, providing real-time technical judgment that keeps hardware moving through assembly with quality and confidence. This role is responsible for dispositioning non-conformances, performing ME inspections and buyoffs, auditing active builds against work instructions, and coaching technicians through complex assembly challenges. Working at full-shift floor presence-100% embedded in the production environment-the FLS ME bridges the gap between engineering intent and manufacturing execution in real time. This engineer independently dispositions difficult and novel non-conformances, collaborates with Responsible Engineers and Quality to develop appropriate dispositions, and contributes new entries to the FLS disposition guide that elevate the entire team's capability. Quality ownership is a critical dimension of this role. The FLS ME owns NC disposition quality for their assigned area, coaches others on proper NC writing techniques, and identifies systemic defect patterns that feed upstream into root cause investigations and process improvements. This engineer also drives operational excellence through inspection cadence optimization, NC workflow streamlining, and WOT approval rigor. They mentor newer FLS MEs, take ownership of the WOT approver rotation, and collaborate across shifts to ensure consistent engineering coverage. The FLS ME serves as the primary technical liaison between production technicians and the broader engineering organization-putting the right people in the room for NC discussions, communicating priorities with Production Shift Leadership, and providing actionable feedback on work instruction updates to anticipate and prevent build risk before it reaches the floor. Key job responsibilities Provide full-shift floor presence as the first engineering resource for build technicians, independently clarifying processes, dispositioning potential NCs, and delivering real-time build feedback for assigned production areas Disposition difficult and novel non-conformances with limited guidance collaborating with REs and Quality to develop appropriate, customer-focused technical dispositions Contribute new entries to the FLS disposition guide and coach others on proper NC writing techniques, elevating team-wide disposition quality Complete ME inspections and buyoffs in a timely manner, while maintaining quality gate integrity across assigned lines Participate in the official WOT approval rotation, providing feedback on WOT updates to ensure documentation accuracy before floor implementation Identify and optimize operational excellence procedures and processes driven by floor walks, feedback mechanisms, and NC data Propose design change requests to improve manufacturability or reduce cost, identifying opportunities from direct build observation Influence the FLS ME team by mentoring newer FLS MEs on NC disposition and inspection techniques, and collaborating across shifts to ensure consistent engineering support coverage Put the right people in the room for NC discussions, communicate priorities, and foster shared understanding of build processes across shifts and partner teams Balance competing interests making independent trade-offs on time, quality, and resources to meet team goals
