Country Manager, Indonesia

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Country Manager, Indonesia to launch and scale our Indonesia business. This is a high-impact role for a commercial leader who enjoys building in new markets, navigating regulatory complexity, and driving growth. Reporting to our Head of SEA Expansion , you will own the Indonesia P&L and country strategy across go-to-market, regulatory and licensing, partnerships, and team build-out. You will work closely with regional and global leadership to establish Indonesia as a flagship market for Airwallex in Southeast Asia.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the Indonesia country strategy, including market priorities, product focus, go-to-market approach, and local partnerships.
• Own commercial outcomes for Indonesia, including revenue, Gross Profit, Total Payment Volume, and new customer acquisition.
• Build strong relationships across regulators, banks, fintechs, and ecosystem partners to support market entry and long-term growth.
• Partner closely with internal Legal, Risk and Compliance teams to manage regulatory and licensing requirements.
• Support and coach local sales and partnerships teams to win enterprise and SME opportunities.
• Represent Indonesia in regional planning and work with global teams to localise products and processes.
• Build and scale a high-performing local team with strong operating rhythms, clear goals, and a high-ownership culture.
• Skills and experience you'll bring
• 10+ years of relevant experience across fintech, payments, banking, financial services, strategy, or business development.
• Strong experience in Indonesia , with a deep understanding of the local financial services, payments, and fintech ecosystem.
• Proven experience in roles that combine regulatory engagement and commercial leadership .
• Strong track record in sales, business development, and partnerships , with experience delivering against revenue or growth targets.
• Experience working on regulatory, licensing, or policy-related matters with Indonesian stakeholders is highly preferred.
• Leadership experience with direct reports and/or P&L responsibility.
• Prior experience as a country manager, market launch leader, or general manager is a strong advantage.
• Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English .
• Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and hands-on execution skills.
• Entrepreneurial, resilient, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
