Advanced Midwife

Responsibilities

• The management of women who are at low, moderate and high risk of complications in pregnancy, including those with obstetric and medical conditions.
• The provision of advanced ultrasound scanning and Doppler assessment.
• To identify women at risk of preterm labour and implement strategies to prevent premature birth.
• To act as a referral point for midwives caring for women with complex needs.
• To develop and deliver educational sessions on various aspects of maternity care to student midwives and other health professionals.
• To participate in research projects and service evaluations as required.
• To take part in the on-call rota as necessary and be responsible for the effective functioning of the Antenatal Clinic during normal working hours.

Requirements

• Essential:
• Registered as a Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).
• A current NMC registration number.
• A degree/diploma in Midwifery and evidence of post-registration experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
• Experience in the provision of antenatal care.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Highly motivated with excellent time management skills.
• Proven ability to prioritise competing workloads and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrates initiative and problem solving skills.
• Evidence of recent practice in the use of ultrasound scanning.
• Previous experience in teaching and mentoring students would be advantageous but not essential.
