• Lead and develop a team of SDEs: Recruit top engineering talent, foster a culture of technical excellence and ownership, provide clear direction, and invest in the career growth of every engineer on the team.
• Own the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for the Monitoring and Remediation System (MARS) and the broader Ground Software and Analytics charter, balancing near-term operational needs with long-term architectural investment.
• Drive architectural decisions for distributed systems supporting hundreds of ground terminals deployed globally, ensuring world-class reliability, scalability, and performance across the Leo constellation.
• Partner with engineers on the team to define, evaluate, and productionize machine-learned anomaly detection tools, predictive maintenance workflows, and automated remediation applications.
• Own the full software development lifecycle for the team -- including design, code review, testing, deployment, mission integration, and operational support -- holding a high technical bar at every stage.
• Represent Ground Software and Analytics in cross-organizational forums, partnering with Leo leadership, RF and systems engineers, hardware suppliers, and ground modem software teams to influence prioritization, resolve dependencies, and align on technical direction.
• Drive operational excellence -- establish and own team-level availability and reliability goals, lead post-incident reviews, and champion continuous improvement across all Ground Software and Analytics systems.
• Define team goals and success metrics, translating organizational strategy into clear quarterly and annual plans that your team can execute against with confidence.

• You will work closely with SEIT engineers and hardware suppliers to define software interfaces and drive ground systems integration. When incidents arise, you will lead the response - coordinating across teams, driving root cause analysis, and ensuring the learnings translate into durable operational improvements. Your contributions, and those of the engineers you lead, will have a direct and meaningful impact on customers around the world who depend on Leo for connectivity.

Additional Information

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and under-served communities around the world. We are looking for an experienced Sr. Software Development Manager to lead the Ground Software and Analytics team and help us build this service from the ground up. As an Sr. SDM, you will own the technical vision, roadmap, and people leadership for a team of Software Development Engineers embedded within Ground Systems Engineering. You will drive the design, development, and long-term evolution of mission-critical systems that directly impact the availability and performance of Leo ground terminals deployed around the world. You will scale the team as ground complexity evolves. This is a high-visibility role at the intersection of robotics, distributed systems, and RF/satellite technology -- requiring both technical depth and strong organizational leadership. You will lead hiring loops, provide feedback on architectural tradeoffs, and ensure your team has the clarity and resources to execute without unnecessary friction.
