Responsibilities

  • Preparing Patient for Scan
  • Work in collaboration with regulated and unregulated health care professionals in their assigned clinical area

  • Answer the phones in the assigned modality area and provide appropriate responses;
  • Triage and manage any call related to an in-patient or emergency department scanning requests, and/or consult with the technologist if needed;
  • Redirect any calls not related to modality to the appropriate area/staff for resolution;
  • Answer any patient related questions relating to the scan, and escalate to the Technologist as required.
  • Scanning Assistance
  • Receive patients from transport team, conduct basic TOA and communicate to the DI clinical technologist team
  • Perform and confirm patient verification to ensure accuracy and confirm patient identity;
  • Under the direction of the Radiologist and/or Technologist insert IVs, as required;
  • Confirm information on patient screening forms, obtain patient histories, and provide patient history to the Technologist;
  • Assist the technologist in patient transfers, and by transferring the patient to the table;
  • Assist in patient transfer from the imaging tables, wheelchairs, etc.
  • Move IV lines from stretcher to bed;
  • Send the patient into the scanner, position and center the patient in the system;
  • Assist in PUI/isolation cases and ensure to wear appropriate PPEs;
  • Document the exam in RIS/PACS.
  • Prepare Procedure Room
  • Accountable to ensure scan rooms are prepared for patient scan including but not limited to:

Learn more at shn.ca Job Description: Medical Imaging provides services to outpatients, inpatients and emergency patients over a wide variety of modalities which include CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, ultrasound, x-ray and mammography. Under the direction and guidance of the Radiologist, DI Manager and with direct oversight from a Technologist, the Technologist Assistant will ensure an efficient workflow and will be accountable to provide support to both the patient and the Technologist, as needed. The Technologist Assistant will support the MRT's in the area in which they are working by coordinating times for In-Patients and Emergency Department requests, communicating necessary preparation to the floor nurse, verifying bloodwork, organizing portering, assist with patient transfers from the stretcher to the imaging tables, inserting IVs (where trained and competent), changing MRI coils if required, position patient into the scanner and handling of imaging equipment. Non-clinical support by preparing rooms, ensure adequate supplies, restocking linen and scanning documents into PACS. Support technologist scan activities, including confirm patient status, verifying protocols, gain clarification, and communicate with clinical team/physicians/porters and other team members.
