About the role
Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Onshore Piping Engineer to join the Discipline Engineering team. Reporting to the Equipment Lead, this role will be based in Chevron's office in Bengaluru. Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead or support the design and specification of pipeline and piping systems, including process, utility, and relief systems.
- Develop and review piping material specifications, line lists, valve specifications, piping classes, piping isometrics and pipe supports.
- Ensure pipeline and piping designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31, API, RP, project and company specifications).
- Coordinate and review piping layout and 3D Model reviews to ensure constructability, operability, and maintainability.
- Perform piping flexibility and stress analysis for pipelines and piping systems using CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, and finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
- Verify stresses, strains, deflections, and nozzle loads are within allowable code limits.
- Apply advanced mechanical engineering principles, including fracture mechanics, fatigue, buckling, creep and general mechanics of materials to evaluate the integrity and remaining life of piping, pipelines, and mechanical components.
- Supports project concept development, scoping, supplier selection, writing specifications, performing bid analysis, facilitating testing, assisting with field startup, performing troubleshooting, using and implementing digital solutions, leading failure analysis and repair strategies.
- Support research and technology development initiatives related to piping, pipelines, and mechanical integrity.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized (AICTE) university.
- Strong working knowledge and practical application of applicable piping and repair codes, including ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8, ASME PCC 2, API 570
- Skilled use of piping stress analysis software such as CAESAR II or AutoPIPE.
- Prior involvement across multiple project phases, including FEED, detailed design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and startup.
- Experience working with EPC contractors, fabrication yards, and construction teams.
- Strong background in vendor data review, technical bid evaluations, and supplier interface management.
- Experience coordinating 3D model reviews
- Experience managing technical deviations, concessions, and non conformances with vendors and EPCs.
- Experience interpreting and applying project specific specifications and operator standards.
- Understanding of process safety, hazardous area classification, and machinery safeguarding. Experience supporting machinery reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) objectives.
- Exposure to machinery commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Strong background in vendor data review, technical bid evaluations, and supplier interface management.
- Experience managing technical deviations, concessions, and non conformances with vendors and EPCs
