Job Category: Limited Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Construct Projects Dir (Inst) Job Summary: The Director of Capital Projects leads the University of Wisconsin - Madison's Capital Projects team, overseeing the management and delivery of all capital projects exceeding $600,000. The team is comprised of project managers, project coordinators, and construction field representatives who drive consistent, high-quality project execution across a diverse and complex portfolio. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across the full project lifecycle, working closely with campus leaders, stakeholders, and external partners. The Director not only ensures successful project delivery, but also shapes capital delivery practices, drives process improvements, and strengthens performance across the program. What sets this role apart is its scope and influence: the opportunity to lead a high-performing team, directly impact a major research university's built environment, and advance how capital projects are delivered at scale in a dynamic and complex research university setting. Key Job Responsibilities: Identifies opportunities and efficiencies to gain strategic alignment with design and construction of capital projects Ensures regular, accurate project status and performance reviews and reports are provided Develops and audits the unit budget and reporting documentation Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees Develops, directs, and implements architectural and engineering project strategies and execution plans Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational and design policies, procedures and guidelines based on project plan and development Serves as the unit liaison to internal stakeholder groups providing organizational information to align project objectives with overall strategic plans and initiatives Department: Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M), Capital Project Delivery FP&M is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities.
