This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Lower Granite Project, operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers and situated on the Snake River, 32-river miles downstream from Clarkston, Washington. This Project provides hydroelectric generation, navigation, fish passage and recreation. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Mechanic Worker In Charge ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties of a Power Plant Mechanical Worker in Charge. I am able to lead a mechanical crew by planning, scheduling and/or coordinating work of others and have experience as a journeyman maintenance mechanic in an industrial setting to include HVAC systems and the operation of governor systems. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT The incumbent must have physical endurance to work for prolonged periods in cramped, poorly accessible sites when repairing or servicing installed equipment. Physical effort requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting and carrying objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Machinist work requires acute dexterity. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in the machine shop, in the powerhouse and other project structures and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, heights, oils, greases, confined areas, dust, dirt, water, heat or cold. Also may be exposed to odors, fumes and moving and/or energized equipment. Must wear all safety equipment and appropriate clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
