Requirements

• Enrolled at JJC for 6 or more credit hours.
• GPA of 2.0 or above.
• Complete previous coursework in Biology and/or Chemistry
• Must be able to work well with others
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

• Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.

Position Title: Student Employee, Biology/Chemistry Lab Assistant Assistant Job Description: The Biology/Chemistry lab assistant will assist with Biology/Chemistry laboratory prep by cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment. POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Biology/Chemistry Laboratory Assistant, STATUS: Part-time DEPARTMENT: Natural Sciences and Physical Education DIVISION: Academic Affairs REPORTS TO: Biology Lab Supervisor CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour (Position is FWS Eligible) ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Abide by Safety Procedures & Policies as detailed in the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan 2. Prepare laboratory materials for all Biology and Chemistry courses. 3. Prepare media for Microbiology Labs, including; operating the autoclave & practicing aseptic techniques. 4. Maintenance of aquariums, plants, lab animals and other living specimens. 5. Maintenance of cadavers. 6. Maintenance of laboratory equipment & supplies, including; cleaning, storage & inventories. 7. Maintenance of classrooms and general lab clean-up. 8. Prepare chemical solutions. Observe proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. 9. Work 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am to 4:00 pm 10. Other duties as assigned.
