About the role
Avantor is seeking a Buyer, Supply Chain Operations to be responsible for purchasing commodity products, chemicals, equipment, and supplies. The Buyer is responsible for all aspects of daily purchase order management and is able to solve complex problems with innovation and ingenuity. They support the Marketing and S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning) team and assist in resolution of pricing and product issues. They will also exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and prioritizing workload, committing company financial resources, and using considerable judgment in complex situations that include escalation as necessary to support some of our most critical accounts. This is a full-time remote/virtual position. How you will thrive and create an impact: Key owner of the supplier relationship. In conjunction with Market Managers, owns and resolves the daily tactical supply chain issues such as backorder resolution, open order expediting, lead time management, supplier production issues, etc. Assists in supplier planning sessions in support of goals and objectives. Supports new stocking request, product launches, product promotions, or discontinuations. Proactively analyzes and makes suggestions to the planning team with regards to replenishment strategies to optimize inventory investment. Identifies and corrects Supply Chain constraints (disruptions in supply) by acting as liaison between Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse and Suppliers. Expedites, cancels /defers and ensures system generated and manual purchase orders are aligned to support Customer need dates and communication throughout the organization as required. Evaluates suppliers based on capability, performance and delivery. Proactively reviews to prevent/minimize stock-outs; accountable for timely resolution of supply chain issues. Works with suppliers to improve delivery dates and lead time. Works with peers to manage supply chain standard operating procedures and create new documents when needed. Embraces innovation. Stays alert to opportunities to make processes better and contributes innovative ideas for improvement. May lead process improvement projects. Adapt quickly to change. Continual learning focus with demonstrated initiative to acquire new knowledge and experiences. Takes accountability for one's own continuing development. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelors degree in Logistics, Business, or Mathematics or equivalent experience required; MBA a plus.
- Experience: 2-5+ years working in a procurement capacity.
- Certifications: APICS/CPIM certification desirable
- Additional Qualifications:
- Proficient in MS office suite (Excel, Access, Word), Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills, work experience in a matrix environment desirable.
- Formal problem solving training highly desirable, i.e. Six Sigma.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills. Focus oriented with attention to detail.
- Solid negotiating skills.
- Ability to work independently without direct oversight.
