Web UI/UX Engineer - Frontend System Development Department, Rakuten Payment, Inc.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Experience developing Progressive Web Apps (PWAs), Single-Page Applications (SPAs), and Server-Side Rendering (SSR) applications
• Experience with cloud services and/or Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), such as Firebase
• Knowledge of utilizing AI and Machine Learning technologies
• Knowledge of build tools (e.g., webpack, Vite)
• Basic knowledge of databases, backend development, and/or mobile development
• Interest in web accessibility and other web standards (e.g., W3C).

Department Overview Rakuten Payment, Inc. Frontend System Development Department oversees development for all Rakuten Payment services. Our vision is to build and shape payment technologies that support our users' daily lives today and in the future. The Frontend System Development Department handles development for the Rakuten Pay mobile application, which serves as a gateway to all Rakuten Payment services and Rakuten's FinTech ecosystem. Our mission, as a key driver of Rakuten Payment, Inc. services, is to attract and delight end-users with robust and convenient services. The department developers cover a wide range of user services, including service sites, campaigns, and advertisements, as well as critical mobile app functions. This is achieved through a hybrid mobile app approach. Position: Why We Hire At the department, we are committed to maintaining and enhancing Rakuten shoppers' experience by organizing autonomous cross-functional teams, able to take ownership of dedicated product areas within the shared app. Due to the growing responsibilities of our department, we are looking for a UI/UX Engineer to help drive forward our innovative products and solutions across Rakuten Group, Inc. and Rakuten Payment, Inc. Position Details Position Responsibilities - Contribute to the development and growth of the Rakuten Pay mobile app - Collaborate with cross-functional team members to understand business objectives and technical details, incorporating them into design and delivering value from inception to service release - Lead development projects to proactively solve business challenges - Take ownership of dedicated product areas, committing to continuous improvement on product strategy and user experience - Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the department and company Mandatory Qualifications: - Frontend development experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - Experience with at least one modern JavaScript web development framework (e.g., React.js, Vue.js, Svelte, Next.js) - Experience in maintaining product quality through version control, automated testing, and technical debt management - Knowledge of modern CSS preprocessors/frameworks (e.g., Sass, SCSS, Tailwind, Daisy, Bulma) - Knowledge of TypeScript and HTTP protocols - Knowledge of contemporary UX research techniques (e.g., A/B testing, Multivariate testing) - Strong desire to improve UX through a deep understanding of both the system and the produc
