Purpose of role The Technical Product Owner is responsible for owning and prioritising the product backlog for technical products, platforms, or infrastructure solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise combined with product management capabilities to bridge engineering teams and business stakeholders, making critical technical trade-off decisions, ensuring that products are designed, built, and maintained to deliver maximum value, scalability, and performance. Essential Attributes Platforms - APIs, cloud technologies, and data platforms (depending on product domain). Cloud Platforms - Working knowledge of one or more major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Familiarity with cloud-native architectural patterns such as microservices, serverless, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and event-driven design, and an appreciation of cost, performance, security and resilience trade-offs. LLM & AI Architecture Exposure - Practical exposure to Large Language Model and generative AI solution patterns, and integration with foundation model APIs (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock). Technical Debt Management - Able to identify, classify and quantify technical debt (code, architecture, infrastructure, dependency, and process debt), articulate its business impact, and build a credible remediation roadmap. Confident in negotiating sustainable trade-offs between new feature delivery and debt paydown, and in using metrics such as change failure rate, lead time, and cycle time to evidence progress. Product Management - Ability to translate business goals into clear product requirements and deliver solutions that align with strategic objectives Agile Delivery - Skilled in agile methodologies, backlog management, sprint planning, and iterative delivery. Stakeholder Management - Confident in engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders, managing expectations, and building trust. Analytical Thinking - Capable of analysing complex problems, data, and user feedback to inform product decisions. Prioritisation & Decision- Making - Balances competing priorities and technical constraints to maximise product value. Communication - Clearly articulates technical concepts to diverse audiences and ensures shared understanding across teams.
